Setting up the app and device

WARNING: Correctly connecting your phone to the defibrillator is easy but should be done before an emergency occurs. We strongly recommend doing this in advance to avoid delays during the critical response time during a cardiac event.

When you open the app for the first time, it will walk you through a simple set up process. This will give the Defibrio app the permissions it needs to power the defibrillator and contact emergency services. The defibrillator will not work without a phone that has been set up as described here.

  1. Connect the attached USB-C cable to your phone.

  2. You’ll be asked if you trust the device. Tap “Trust” to allow the phone to connect to the defibrillator.

  3. You’ll be asked to allow the app to access calling features on your phone. Tap “Allow” to give the app permission to call 911 during an emergency.

  4. You’ll be asked to allow notifications. Tap “Allow” to let the app notify you about software updates or expired pads.

  5. Enter the expiration date and lot number of your defibrillator pads when prompted. The date and lot number are found on the packaging:

NOTE: This is important because the pads eventually need replacement. Entering the expiration date lets us tell you how to get new pads for free when needed.
  1. If you’d like to create an account to manage your Defibrio, provide your contact information. You can always create an account later.
  2. Send a message to your emergency contacts and invite them to download the app as well.
Note: Having additional people install the app improves the chances that someone is ready to help in case of an emergency. You should set up the Defibrio app on any phone that might be available during a cardiac event in your home. Consider inviting partners, children, neighbors, caretakers, and other frequent visitors to set up the app to increase the number of people who can help in an emergency.

Your defibrillator and app are now set up and ready to use. We recommend running the self-test as described in the “Maintenance and Troubleshooting” section of these instructions to verify that the device is working properly.
